This was nothing compared to the sad pants that Millie became after being spayed on Thursday. She also had a wonky duclaw removed from her back right leg. It had a huge severely curved nail that couldn’t be clipped because it had the quick all the way to the end. It stuck out and got hooked on stuff and was constantly bleeding so that was removed. She didn’t have one on her back left leg and the front two were fine.

She whined and whined and couldn’t get comfortable so she huffed and sighed endlessly for two days. She hadn’t eaten anything aside from dog biscuits since Thursday and has lost a fair amount of weight. I am hoping she starts feeling better soon.

I keep telling her it is for the best and that she will feel better soon but she definitely doesn’t believe me. The cone hardly lasted the day but she hasn’t been interested in licking her incision so it came off and I’ve kept a close eye on her. I can’t believe they said she should keep it on for two weeks. That was never going to happen. I didn’t think it was possible but she’s been even more cuddly since the surgery and she has been curled up in my lap or laying curled up by my neck and it’s been great.

I don’t think I’ve ever loved a dog this much in my life. She’s definitely the best dog I’ve ever had and I don’t know how I would have gotten through the past few months without her.

Of the deaths tracked in one study, where the cause of death could be attributed specifically:

(47.1%) were directly attributed to complications of MS.
(28.6%) were suicides.

The complications break down further:
(30.2%) were due to malignancy.
(20.6%) to an acute myocardial infarction (heart attack).
(11.1%) to stroke.
(9.5%) to miscellaneous causes.

Knowing that my own brain is playing a game of Russian roulette with every new lesion makes for an interesting life.

I was going to put an ad up on Craigslist to give away all of my possessions but then I figured that it would turn into a nightmare. I’ve heard the crazy stories of people ransacking houses and destroying them by fighting over the free stuff, not to mention living in the middle of nowhere would be scary to have strangers coming to the house. So instead I hit up two local communes who are sister communities. They’re about an hour away. Hopefully they will be coming by this coming week to take the majority of my furniture, clothes, knick knacks and all that jazz. I don’t want to leave a big mess for someone else to have to clean up. I have two suitcases that I’m packing and that’s all I am keeping.

Those of you who know me know I have a very rad collection of all things skulls. From candles to cookie jars, skulls banks to napkins, it’s all very very cool stuff and it’s all going away.

This is my life. Laying in bed hooked up to IV meds at home. I have been having side effects galore, from the disgusting taste it causes to headaches, shaking uncontrollably, horrible headache, (did I say that already?) nausea, sour stomach, extreme exhaustion somehow mixed with hyperactivity but the shaking has me so exhausted I keep falling asleep. Usually after the first dose I feel a little better as the drugs reduce the swelling in my brain but I still can’t feel anything from the waist down.

I’m going wheelchair shopping tomorrow. I also need to figure out hand controls for my vehicle. I thought there was this handle thing that mounted to control the gas and brake but I haven’t found anything that doesn’t have to be hard wired.

I really wish they had assisted living facilities for people like me, reasonably young, with a kid but just needs help for those “honey, I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” moments. Yes, I know, I mixed that quote up but what can I say. I’ve got brain problems.

Oh and I forgot to mention, that’s Millie and she is licking my feet. She enjoys licking both her and my feet and honestly I don’t mind at all. Must be some kind of foot fetish, right? Just kidding… erm..

It’s really depressing to think I could lose the health insurance I’ve only had for two months after 5+ years of being uninsurable and mounting over $100k in medical debts on top of what I’ve had to spend since being diagnosed with MS. I guess I should try to utilize the insurance as much as I can while I’ve still got it.

I wish these people had to suffer without insurance as well and have a chronic disease.

When you can’t tell if you’ve caught up with all the posts on your dashboard because the dashboard doesn’t keep track of unread posts. I wish tumblr tracked read/unread posts.

It’s also a pain to scroll back to the top of the iPhone app. Not to even get into how badly the tumblr iPhone app crashes when you have hit “load more pages” too many times.

Cyber Squatters!

I know that a couple people who follow me know people who work at Tumblr. Can someone please pass this along?

Something needs to be done about the typo squatters who are sitting on tumblr.com variations, especially considering tumblr is a misspelling of a real word to begin with! If I can get rid of dozens of BME typo squatters (from the BMEzine.com URL days), tumblr certainly should be able to do so! Considering the magnitude of tumblr’s web presence at this point, they certainly have an ethical obligation to stop squatters from benefiting from infringing on tumblr’s trademarks.

I’m sure tumblr has to have a legal team and a simple cease and desist letter goes a long way. Following that, UDRP complaints are something any decent tech lawyer can put together. Seriously, get on it!

The first stop should be sites like tmblr.com. It’s one thing to have a PPC search engine that poorly resembles their site and it’s another to make an identical copy. Thankfully I hate taking surveys, no matter how quick they claim to be but it is definitely not cool to leave sites like that out there. It is against the law to do stuff like that for a reason!

If Tumblr is lacking in a good legal team, I can certainly recommend a couple great lawyers/firms who specialize in internet/technology.

Relaxing on Mother’s Day.

I was woken up by my daughter at 5:45am with breakfast in bed. It consisted of half cooked turkey bacon, Cheetos, sliced pears and bananas covered in chocolate syrup.

Ari thought today was a school day so she set her alarm for 5:10am to make sure she woke up before me. I skipped breakfast and we went back to bed until 10. I can’t imagine why it didn’t seem appetizing but I just couldn’t stomach eating it. Thankfully Ari had no trouble “sharing” it with me.

Later on, we went for a mile long walk down the driveway and back, picking flowers, while Millie and our ducks followed. We spent some time working on this 1000 piece puzzle which doesn’t appear to have all of the side pieces and pieces that don’t match fit perfectly together so I don’t think we will be completing this one.

It was a really nice day. Now we are crashed out on the couch. Snuggle city.

Baclofen — which goes by Kemstro, Lioresal, and Gablofen — isn’t quite definitively efficient in all cases of alcoholism, but it has provided “clinical benefits in some patients,” so France is forging ahead. In a study of 132 heavy drinkers, the drug — originally developed to treat epilepsy — succeeded in making 80 percent either become abstinent or moderate drinkers. The best any other anti-alcoholism drug has ever managed is fewer than 25 percent.

Side effects include fatigue, drowsiness, insomnia, dizziness, and digestive troubles. Also the financial burden of a round-trip flight to France.

I’ve been taking Baclofen for a while to treat spasticity caused by my MS. Its essentially being used as a sleep medication. Baclofen basically acts like a milder version of ambien as I can’t take ambien because of the risks of mixing it with other medications that would be lethal. I take it before bed time because it makes me fall asleep.

The only way I could see this working is if it makes alcoholics fall asleep instead of drinking. “Go to bed, instead of drinking!” Sounds good to me! Baclofen currently costs $8.54 for 60 pills a month without insurance. I really hope this doesn’t cause the price to sky rocket because it’s the only affordable medication that I take. Everything else is thousands of dollars a month.

My zebu, Elsa Luna (her friends call her Miss Ellie Moon) had her calf on April 17th. Ellie had originally lost her first calf last year. It was born alive but unfortunately didn’t get out of the sack in time so it passed away. This new young bull is happy and healthy. Ellie is 34” at the shoulders and was bred to a 31 1/2” bull so this little guy should be tiny!
